MAUI OCEAN CENTER CERTIFICATION HIGHLIGHTS

MOC has taken significant steps towards creating a sustainable and holistic operation, and it definitely shows. Company has integrated a number of sustainable principles into daily operations (e.g. no single-use water bottles sold [have a bottle filling station], no sunscreen sold [encourage use of hats, long-sleeves, etc.], on-site restaurant [Seascape] is certified as an Ocean Friendly Restaurant for its commitment to reducing single-use plastics. Numerous steps to address energy, water usage, carbon emissions, etc. have also been implemented.

Interpretation during Behind-the-Scenes tour was top notch. Enjoyed presentations by the lead naturalist and also the aquarist – obvious expertise by MOC. The use of headsets is a really great and novel addition to address issues with wind. Tour highlighted how MOC fully integrates ocean science, conservation and education. Conservation messaging was present and woven throughout tour.
