I’ve wanted to do this for years and it was as amazing as I had hoped. We were in the water for 45-60 minutes, with mantas right beneath us nearly the whole time, gracefully looping and over and over, often coming within a foot. Enjoy a day full of incredible stories, great views and wonderful local guides.

BIG ISLAND DIVERS CERTIFICATION HIGHLIGHTS

  • The educational talk by Bob was really good explaining best practices for viewing, the tie Mantashad to the Hawaiian culture as well as biological information about them. Very thorough and the visual aids were good too.
  • Liked your educational corner which had information about safety and your environmental pledge (WHVS) posted on wall.
  • Loved the rechargeable/reusable dive lights and ID lights (instead of glow sticks which was common on other boats).
  • Encouraged guests to reuse their cups and explained that all bottles/cans would be recycled.Reminded guests to make sure nothing ended up in the ocean.
  • Appreciated the sale of reef safe sunscreen in store and reusable water bottles along with information about why this is important.

  • Staff educational efforts seem very strong, however they did not specifically know what the Hawaii Ecotourism Association or the West Hawaii Voluntary Standards are. They did however demonstrate practices in line with both programs.
  • Did a great job keeping the group together and avoiding attracting Mantas away from the main viewing circle. Explained to guests why this was important.
  • Great job attaining PADI Green star and TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Great job responding to negative comments on TA. Good job linking to the certification websites so guests can better understand what they mean.
